OUR
MINISTRIES
Audio Ministry
Operates and maintains the sound equipment to ensure clarity during the worship
experience. This ministry ensures that the Word of God is accurately represented,
amplified and recorded through sound reinforcement that is both audible and
comfortable to those listening.
Media
Ministry
Duplicates, distributes and archives recordings of all
worship experiences, conferences, workshops, seminars,
and special events sponsored solely by or in conjunction
with Upper Room Christian Cathedral.
Ministerial Staff
Assists Pastor in ministering to the various needs of
our growing congregation. Staff currently oversees other
areas of ministry, including, but not limited to: Ministers-in-training,
Deacons-in-training, New Disciples Orientation, facilitation
of Men’s and Women’s Ministries, New Converts
Class, Outreach/Evangelism)
Accounting Stewards
Appointed by the Pastor, the Accounting Stewards
are responsible for oversight of the financial management of
ministry funds. They ensure that monies are verified, counted
and recorded for the building and advancement of God’s
Kingdom. Meticulous bookkeeping and reverential stewardship
of tithes, offerings, and sacrificial gifts given unto the
Lord are handled here. Reports are accurately completed and
forwarded to the church administrator or designee for archive
and proper distribution.
P.I.T. (Put It Together) Crew
These “ministers of muscle” are responsible
for the set up and break down of ministry events.
Ministry of Helps
Serving the Body (the church) is how we minister to the Lord Jesus. We are
honored to serve through greeting all those who enter the sanctuary; caring
for the temporal needs of our pastor, the ministerial staff and music ministry
during the worship experience; assisting to minimize disturbances during
the worship experience. As the congregation and its temporal needs grow,
so shall our opportunities to serve.
Evangelism/Outreach
Coordinate and implement effective ways to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ
into our community and throughout the entire city so that men might be saved
and brought back to God. Tape Ministry Stations, quarterly mass mailings
and “Friday Tape Tosses” are a few ways we get the message out.
Guest Follow-Up
First time guests are looked at as distant relatives that you see once a year
at family reunions. Sundays are considered family reunions at the Upper Room
because this is where we are “Celebrating God’s Family Reunion”.
This ministry honors our first time guests by contacting them after their
Sunday visit with us and thanking them for blessing us with their presence.
All guests are family at the Upper Room!
Men's Ministry "Mighty Men of Valor"
Underneath the gruff, rough and tough exterior of a man, beats the heart of
a little boy trying to make sense out of what he’s been thrust in to.
How do you become a man? The best-kept secret to becoming a man is COMMUNICATION!
Men typically don't talk. Pride, shame, anger, frustration, and distrust
are just a few reasons why men don't talk, but man's deliverance is found
in his ability to open his mouth! When Mighty Men of Valor get together,
wear a hard hat because something is always going to come down! Issues that
directly effect and infect men's lives are discussed and addressed from a
Biblical stand point. All fellowships are rated "R" -- REAL!
Women's Ministry "Just Women "
Just Women Ministries blends together the talents and abilities of all women
in the church to minister as unto Christ in prayer, practical ministry, spiritual
growth, and evangelistic/missionary outreach. We also seek to minister to
the women within the local congregation, giving opportunity for Christian
fellowship, spiritual growth, and the development of talents and gifts. Our
primary goal is to energize (stimulate/activate) the ladies to help fulfill
the vision of the Upper Room by reaching out in ministry within their church,
their community and the world.
Youth Department "T.A.G. Team" (This Anointed
Generation)
1 Peter 2:9 says: "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of
him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." It is
the desire of the Upper Room Youth Ministry to provide a firm foundation of
Biblical teaching for youth ages 3-18. We seek to provide them with an understanding
of salvation, and their assurance of it; enable them to build strong relationships
with Christ; and nurture and nourish their character development.
T.A.G. participates in the Drama Ministry which performs skits
and plays bringing to life spiritual truths in a relevant and
tangible manner. T.A.G. also participates in the Step Team,
an evangelistic tool utilizing their creative ability and youthful
vigor to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Each of these activities
are used as ministry/outreach tools.
Excellence in the church and outside the church is promoted by encouraging
academic success and achievement in the development of good study habits and
the refinement of good oral and written communication skills.
Music Ministry
An important component of the worship experience is
ministry through music. This was David’s ministry
in the palace with King Saul. Elisha, the prophet, called
for the minstrel (the musician) to play and as he played,
the hand of the Lord moved and the Word of God came
forth. The Ministry of Music consists of the Praise
Ensemble, URCC Chorale, Youthful Soul Sounds for Christ
youth choir and a male chorus. This ministry ushers
us into the presence of the Lord by creating an atmosphere
that welcomes and blesses Him. This atmosphere or “flow”
that the music ministry helps to create allows intimacy
and love to “flow” from the heart of the
Father (God) to the hearts of His children.
Disciple Builders Ministry
In obedience to the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to make disciples
of all men and women, who have by faith believed on him and received His
free gift of eternal life, this ministry vows to take “church membership” a
step further. Here Biblical foundations are laid, strengthened and further
built upon. Biblical principles and fundamentals of faith are presented and
made applicable in such a way that disciples emerge equipped to do the work
of the ministry placed before them.
Various components make up this ministry. They include,
but are not limited to:
“Soul Food” Bible Study: A weekly
interactive Bible study facilitated primarily by the Pastor
where the Word of God is examined for its applicable use in
day to day life.
Intercessory Prayer: Weekly prayer session
where intercession is made on behalf of others within and
outside the Body of Christ.
Covenant Partnership: This is one of
the most important yet highly underrated ministries
within the Body of Christ. All disciples who have completed
New Disciples Orientation belong to this ministry! New
Christians, perspective church family members, backsliders
who've found their way back home or anyone else that
makes a conscious decision to give God the reigns of
their life automatically are put on the devils "hit"
list. Because of this they need someone to encourage,
agree and pray with them that their decision for Christ
was indeed the right one. This partnership is the third
component of that 3-fold chord that is not so easily
broken. Information is exchanged and contact is made
regularly to encourage and promote fellowship in order
that those coming into our family don't feel alone.
Without this ministry our churches might as well install
revolving doors.
New Converts Class: Class for new and
young believers designed to make the transition from
darkness to light a smooth one, by outlining and explaining
the important truths about this new life in Christ.
This class teaches fundamental aspects of salvation
and sets forth a proper foundation for healthy spiritual
growth.
New Disciples Orientation: Orientation
consists of nine informative and interactive sessions
outlining the structural nature of the Upper Room Christian
Cathedral and gives a description of the various ministries
in operation. This component of ministry exists to familiarize
those who've expressed a desire to become a part of
the Upper Room church family with who we are, why we're
here, where we're going and how we plan on getting there.
Sessions currently include: Official Welcome, Purpose
and Vision Statements; the Holy Spirit and A Call to
Holiness; Tithes and Offerings, Spiritual Gift Assessment,
"Where Do I Fit In?" and details of the URCC
Constitution/Beliefs. Those who successfully complete
orientation receive a Discipleship Certificate along
with all rights and privileges of a URCC Family Member.
